WNY Tre FAQ’s and Answers
I have been told that all ash trees are going to die and there is nothing we can do about it…
While the Emerald Ash Borer is having a devastating impact on our Ash Trees, with proper treatment from an Arborist these trees can be kept healthy for our Children and Grandchildren to enjoy!
Why should I hire a WNY Certified Arborist?
There are a number of tree companies around that claim to have the knowledge and experience to handle your tree care needs but have little experience or lack the knowledge to work properly and safely. You wouldn’t hire someone to preform surgery that wasn’t a doctor or someone to do electrical work that wasn’t an electrician don’t put your home and property at risk when it comes to tree care. Hire a certified arborist.
Why are the trees in my new or recently renovated building site dying?
Often times when a site is being developed/renovated topsoil is removed ground is compacted and essential elements of tree health are disrupted. With soil compensation through aeration fertilizing and restructuring of the soil your lot can be transformed back to a sustainable growing site.
Should I be adding mulch to my trees every year?
One of the biggest issues we see is over mulching(tree volcanos) . At any time there should only be apprx. 2-3 inches of mulch around your tree on top of original soil height. Often times mulch does not have to be re applied but can simply be flipped. If you like the way new mulch looks remove a small amount of old mulch and put down a thin layer of new mulch.
Is it necessary to have tree spray applications for tree insects and diseases on my property?
Plant health care programs have come a long way since the days of the “spray everything theory”. A good arborist will work with your individual site and design a program to cut down high populations of damaging insects and diseases and get them back to a sustainable level that will not threaten the life of your trees. A lot of problems can be treated with natural or organic treatment that are designed to pinpoint one particular issue not destroy everything.
I have a small woods lot on my property should I be doing anything with it?
It is very important to properly manage your urban forest. Removing hazard or damaged trees in your woods lot creates an area for healthy strong tree to thrive.
I would like to have tree work done but the last guy I had do work destroyed my lawn and flower beds…
A professional tree service will take painstaking efforts to ensure your property is left looking better when they are gone than it did when they arrived. It is not always necessary to bring heavy equipment in to complete a job. Often time’s trees can be climbed and limbs can be roped strategically to the ground without damage. If it is necessary to bring in equipment roadways can be built with plywood and mats to prevent lawn damage and barriers can be placed over gardens to ensure no damage is done.
We are in the early stages of planning a construction project at our house/business. When should I call in a WNY arborist?
An arborist should be involved from the preliminary planning process all the way to the final details. When you are caring for existing trees or planning a site for planting there are many details that need to be addressed and planned for to prevent costly long term mistakes.
I have gotten quotes from various companies for Buffalo tree and landscape work. The prices range drastically. How do I know who to choose?
One of the most important things is to make sure the company is insured and are insured for the type of work they will be doing. An insurance certificate is free to anyone who requests it. Also it is very important to ask for referrals, years of experience and pictures of previous projects the company has done. Remember the person selling the job is not always the person working on your property. Ask for the credentials of the workers that will be on site as well as the salesman. The highest price is sometimes the best deal as far as the quality of work that will be done and the longevity of the completed job.
What are some of the credentials I should look for in a Buffalo Tree removal service?
There are many different certifications that you should look for in a tree service. Ask if they are certified arborist, years of experience, E.H.A.P training(to work around wires) Spray applicators license, Aerial rescue training, O.S.H.A certified, Continuing education credits and active member in the New York State Arborist Assc. #
